The renowned Swedish baritone Karl-Magnus Fredriksson is since 1999 a soloist at the Royal Swedish Opera, where he has performed roles such as Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Il Conte in Le nozze di Figaro, Marcello in La Bohème, Papageno in Die Zauberflöte, The Unknown in Gefors’ Christina, Fritz/Pierrot in Die tote Stadt, the title role in Eugen Onegin, Conte di Luna in Il Trovatore, Germont in La Traviata, Absalon in Sandström’s Batseba, Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, Jason in Börtz’s Medea, Renato in Un ballo in maschera, the title role in Rigoletto and in 2023 he made his role debut as Scarpia in Tosca.
Karl-Magnus Fredriksson has appeared with conductors such as Sir Colin Davies, Andrew Davies, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Frans Brüggen, Alan Gilbert, Jesús López-Cobos, Sakari Oramo, Herbert Blomstedt, Leif Segerstam, Pier Giorgio Morandi, Andrew Manze and Lawrence Renes together with several of the world's leading orchestras. He regularly visits various countries in Europe with opera and romance concerts, orchestral songs and sacred works.
The discography of Karl-Magnus includes about 35 CD recordings on well-renowned record companies, where masses, oratorios and requiems are combined with works by older and contemporary Swedish composers, Christmas music, hymns and carols, Nordic romances, songs by Bellman, Taube and Adolphson, German lieder, orchestral songs and operetta. Together with pianist Mattias Böhm, he has produced two albums, Songs of life 1 and 2, and together with his piano quintet, an album with Bellman and Taube.
Karl-Magnus Fredriksson has made regular appearances in television and radio where, in addition to traditional music programs, he has participated in new recordings of contemporary music and previously unrecorded material. He is continuously worked to perform and spread the art of the Lieder around the world, preferably by mixing Nordic romances, German Lied, French, Italian and English songs and sacred repertoire in his concerts. His desire to reach new forms of expression and listeners with his multifaceted singing art are expressed through his compositions and arrangements for voice, piano and instrumental ensemble and personal spoken poetic reflections.
Karl-Magnus Fredriksson received his education at the University College of Opera in Stockholm where he studied under professor, Court Singer Erik Saedén and graduated in 1991 and he has since then been actively working as a vocal soloist. Karl-Magnus also studied with Dietrich-Fischer Dieskau. Today, Karl-Magnus Fredriksson is both a sought-after singer and vocal teacher who enjoys giving Masterclasses in vocal technique and interpretation. He has also been active as a sculptor since 2016, where his work is represented at, among others, the Royal Palace, Waldermarsudde and Alfvéngården.
Karl-Magnus Fredriksson was appointed Court Singer in 2004. In 2013, Karl-Magnus Fredriksson received the medal Litteris et Artibus from His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf. Karl-Magnus Fredriksson is a member of the Swedish Royal Academy of Music.
