World premiere of Sonatra at the Royal Swedish Ballet
The Royal Swedish Ballet presents a commissioned piecen for 12 male dancers, Sonatra, choreographed by Joseph Sturdy. Sonatra is performed to a piano composition by Michael Gordon, recorded by Bengt-Åke Lundin, and a piece by Jane Antonia Cornish.
"Joseph Sturdy has created energetic formations wrapped in an abstract language. The 20 minutes piece is based on each of the 12 male dancers, where the bodies are allowed to speak for themselves. In contrast to the static and isolated life we all live in during the ongoing pandemic, Sonatra creates a constant expansive movement.
Sonatra can be viewed from the Royal Swedish Opera streaming service Kungliga Operan Play until June 12, 2021.
