Bengt-Åke Lundin
Bengt-Åke Lundin, the multifaceted concert pianist and indispensable accompanist for both our Swedish opera stars and their international colleagues, is a constant feature in Swedish music life.
Bengt-Åke Lundin made his debut in 1989 with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra playing Tchaikovsky´s Piano Concerto No 1, for which he got standing ovations and brilliant reviews. He was appointed Stockholm Concert Hall’s first representative in the European Concert Hall Organisation ECHO’s project Rising Star that gave him the opportunity to perform in Carnegie Hall New York, Frankfurt Alte Oper, Kölner Philharmonie, Konzerthaus Wien, Concertgebouw Amsterdam and Symphony Hall Birmingham. He has been a soloist with the major symphony orchestras in his native Sweden and appeared in the USA, Germany, England, the Netherlands, France, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Greece, Estonia, Latvia, Egypt and China.
Last season included the world premiere of the ballet Sonatra, where Bengt-Åke Lundin played the solo piano in the compositions by Michael Gordon and Jane Antonia Cornish.
Previous seasons have included Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No 3 with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and Stéphane Denève, Tchaikovsky’s G major concert with the Altenburg-Gera Symphony Orchestra and Niklas Willén, Tchaikovsky’s B-flat minor Concert with Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Daniel Harding and Brahms’ Piano Concerto No 2 with the Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock and Niklas Willén.
Bengt-Åke Lundin is a dedicated chamber musician and has a particular interest in lieder accompaniment. He appears frequently with a number of leading Swedish singers such as Peter Mattei, Matilda Paulsson and Malena Ernman. As a repetiteur he has worked for the Royal Swedish Opera, the University College of Opera in Stockholm and at Opera på Skäret.
As Artist in Residence at the Swedish Radio, Bengt-Åke Lundin has made a large number of recordings, mainly Swedish music. He has collaborated with several Swedish composers, who have written music especially for him. He has recorded for Naxos, BIS Records, Caprice Records and Phono Suecia. His recordings have received the prestigious Swedish Grammy Award twice.
