The Swedish soprano Susanna Stern has previous season sung Donna Anna in Don Giovanni at the Göteborg Opera. The season before Susanna appeared as Grande Vestale in Spontini’s La Vestale and as Ceres in Joseph Kraus’ opera Proserpin at the Confidencen Opera & Music Festival.
The season of 2021/22 included the title role in the contemporary opera The Snow Queen by Benjamin Staern at the Royal Swedish Opera and in the role of Kvinnan/The Woman at the Piteå Chamber Opera production BLY and the seasons before included Donna Anna in Don Giovanni at the Norrland Opera and the role of Julia Pastrana, a circus artist in Philip Glass’ opera Circus Days and Nights with premiere in Malmö, a co-production between Malmö Opera and Cirkus Cirkör.
Susanna made her debut in 2011 at the Royal Swedish Opera as Amor in Gluck’s Orphée, which was followed by Norina in Don Pasquale on the same stage. Susanna has since visited the Royal Swedish Opera several times and has appeared in roles such as Contessa in Le nozze di Figaro, Königin der Nacht in Die Zauberflöte, Romilda in Handel's Serse. Musetta in La Bohème, Freia in Das Rheingold and Gerhilde in Die Walküre.
Susanna Stern has been a frequent guest at the Malmö Opera where she has appeared in the title role in The Snow Queen, and Helma in Hans Gefors' opera Parken. She has sung Constance in Poulenc’s Dialogue des Carmelites, Frasquita in Carmen, Ilia in Idomeneo (in concert) and Juliette in Roméo et Juliette on tour with the Malmö Opera. Susanna has also sung Zerlina in Don Giovanni at the Drottningholm Court Theatre and has appeared in a staged version of Haydn’s Die Schöpfung at Folkoperan in Stockholm.
On the concert platform Susanna Stern appears in works like Haydn’s Die Schöpfung, Mozart’s Requiem, Exsultate Jubilate, Coronation Mass and C minor Mass, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem, and Handel’s Messiah.
Susanna Stern graduated from the University College of Opera in Stockholm in 2009 and has won recognition for both her vocal and theatrical skills. During her studies, Susanna Stern performed roles such as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro and Despina in Così fan tutte, Ännchen in Der Freischütz at Folkoperan, Stockholm and Flaminia in Haydn’s Il mondo della luna at the Drottningholm Court Theatre.
Susanna has been awarded Jenny Lind Prize (2008) as well as scholarships and awards from the Swedish Royal Academy of Music, The Friends of the Drottningholm Court Theatre and The Anders Sandrew Foundation.
